That’s right boys & girls, about 6 months ago, City Zoo officially became a band. With it being the end of the year, most of us look for resolutions to make or look back on the year that was. As far as City Zoo goes – here was ours:

MUSIC THAT WON’T LEAVE MY HEAD:
There’s also been a few songs that have been bouncing through my head as this year has gone on. Keep in mind, I’m not putting an emphasis on songs from this year. They’re from all over the place:
Everlong/Foo Fighters
The National Anthem/Radiohead
Dead Leaves & the Dirty Ground/The White Stripes
Juicebox/The Strokes
Joker & the Thief/Wolfmother
School/Nirvana
I haven’t been able to get enough of these songs over the past several months. If you’ve probably heard some of these, you’ve probably figured out where at least I’m drawing some inspiration from. I’m sure you guys have a lot of other songs that have been bouncing around in your heads as well. Maybe we’ll get to hear some from them??? Who knows?
THE BANDS I WATCH:
Sticking to the subject of music. Here’s a list of bands I’ve seen this year. WIth the exception of Soul Asylum & Clarence Carter, everyone on this list is local accompanied by the amount of times I’ve seen them in 2009:
MyNameIsJohnMichael (3), Silent Cinema (3), Happy Talk Band (2), The Public (4), Felix (3), Caddywhompus (2), Lovehog (At least 4), Arbor Vitae, The Green Genes (5), Kermit Ruffins, White Bitch, The Tomatoes, Big Rock Candy Mountain (2), Blackbelt Band (3), Antenna Inn (2), Glasgow, The City Life, A Living Soundtrack, The Burning Castles, Smiley with a Knife, The Peekers, The Medics, Cowboy Mouth, Allen Toussaint, Dash Rip Rock, We Landed on the Moon, The Bingo Show (There’s a ton of bands here, so I’ll just say CLICK HERE. You can find most of them here. BTW we hope you’ll find us all over that site one day too!)
Within this I might add that positively the two shows of the year were hands down the final shows of The City Life & Antenna Inn.
I think that’s all of them. If I forgot any, let me know. There was this awesome Rockabilly/Punk band from Mississippi, but I can’t remember their name.
I guess I just wanted to share with all of you how we’ve been doing and what music has looked like to me over the past year. However, once that big ball drops in less than 24 hours, this will all be the past. 2010 is ahead of us waiting for us to do all sorts of odd Rock n’ Roll things to it.
FOR 2010:
Kind of a cross between resolutions and a wish list.
For City Zoo:
1.) To play with a large amount of the bands mentioned above.
2.) To get more of you guys and gals out there involved in what we’re doing.
3.) To record at least 1 more Ep…Maybe 2
4.) Write at least as many new songs as we did this year.
For Me, ST (Same thing applies. Sort of half resolution, half wish list)
1.) To get better. (As a singer, songwriter, & musician)
2.) Record more demos (Of the Garage Band variety. Who wants some?)
3.) Get off the XBox long enough to make the previous two happen.
4.) To lay off the beer. 12 beers in a night = well over 1,000 empty calories = Bad.
We’ll see if both myself and City Zoo can stick to these resolution/wishes (if the other bands want to make that happen, we’re only an email away – insert moment of shameless promotion.) If you’ve gotten through all this, you should pass it on to others, you know, spread the Rock n’ Roll goodness. Why? We’ve got 3 shows for you to help ring in the New Year!
January 1st – Banks St. Bar w/ The War Office
January 8th – Dockside’s Lounge w/ The War Office
January 14th – Circle Bar w/ Easy Company
Hope to see you at all 3!!!
See you next year!
ST from…
