Generation 1
A PUNCHER’S CHANCE – We’ve been jamming on this song for a few months. Once we booked the semi-acoustic show, it looked like this would be the perfect time to break it out. It’s about realistic love in a relationship sifted through a boxing metaphor. We think it’s pretty cool & hope you come check it out when we play it at various shows in the future.
FINGERNAILS - The riff in this one is courtesy of Mr. Nicholas Hebert. Wrote out most of the lyrics in a few minutes at practice the night we set aside to work on it. It’s about the WORST possible scenario. I guess I’ve never been one to write about too many happy things. You’ll get to hear it @ our next show!!!
SOMETHING YOU LOVE TO HATE – Rory brought in this awesomely methodical riff. The name of the song just kept popping into my head while we were working out the kinks. If you’ve ever beaten yourself up over useless crap till it changed you, then you’ll get it. The chorus of the song has a set of balls the size of honeydew melons.
MOST OF THE TIME – Nick & Pete switch things up by passing each other their instruments on this one. After we played through it a few times I thought, “When did we get funky?” It’s about being able to fall in love with someone despite personal hang-ups & issues. I foresee babies being made to this one in the future. Like I said…WAY funky.
HOT PURSUIT – An epic little number about being tired of sucking. Forged out of days of riff A.D.D.
W – Not the Ex-president. A funky song that likes to get dirty. If you’re a lyric follower, it deals with an obsession I had way back when with bartenders.
IMMATURE – The one song I get to play keys on. Someone called me this a while back. To an extent, they’re right. Our “soul” number.
WONDERFUL RULES – This song is awesome when we go into the breakdown. Pete works the hell out of the bassline. It sort of chronicles what people might do in order to break rules.
EVENTUALLY – As of right now, this song seems to be one of our calling cards. It was one of the 1st riffs Nick put down. It started out as something about procrastination and got bigger. It wasn’t complete until Rory came up with that bomb-ass bridge earning him the nickname “The Bridge Man”
THE FEAR – A song about Jack the Ripper – I watched “From Hell” that night. Sorry for creeping you out. The call and answer stuff that Rory and Nick do kick ass.
DONE WITH YOU – Oddly enough, practically written in conjunction with THE FEAR. They relate in no way. Basically I wanted to prove I could write a 3 minute song. Those that have heard it will notice the awesome guitar harmonies Rory works in at the end.
SURE-FIRE METHOD – If we wrote a musical about Mr. Hyde winning out over Dr. Jeckyll and then deciding to sell the potions in the streets; then this would be the sales pitch. Full of minor chords and operatic nuttiness. All dark & minory.
BRING ON THE ABUSE – A big bad ass that’s full of heavy bass and raucous guitar screams…If we had to have a chant for a song it’s here. If you ever hear it, you’ll be able to scream – “We all want to be just like you, we just can’t wait, so bring on the abuse…”
RADIO TRANSMISSION SONG – This song is a wonderful, wonderful mother. Lyrics, beats, synth, and bass came together in only a few hours. I think the lyrics speak pretty clearly - it’s about someone wanting someone else. I was running a huge fever and couldn’t speak – so in the original recording I played for Nick and Rory all you could hear was the drum machine, bass, synth, and me whispering the lyrics into the mic. Once that was done, Rory proceeded to layer 5 – count ‘em – 5 guitar parts in addition to Nick’s Rhythm and Piano parts. It’s still my favorite (Obviously, since I’m writing so damn much about it.). Pete calls this song “That weird bass line.”
PERSONAL – Is the quintessential opener. We won’t guarantee that we’ll open with this all the time. But out of all of our songs, this one throws open the door and kicks you in the nuts. I’m being incredibly mean to myself in these lyrics. The solo alone is something that keeps you begging for more.
EATS YOU ALIVE – This rockin’ piece of blues goodness is brought to you by Rory. It actually came about the first day Nick, Rory, and I all got together with the specific intention of writing songs back in March ’09.
YOU – This is our “acoustic” song. Nick just started this riff and within about 20 minutes we had a song. It holds a great place in that it showed us we could do this together. It’s about going out in Gretna (insert PSA here).
